iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G review

iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G review : iQOO launched the iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G in India on February 22. The smartphone is priced starting at Rs 35,999 and goes up to Rs 36,999 for its 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage model. We used the phone for over two weeks, and in that period of time, we found the Neo 9 Pro 5G to be fantastic. Especially when you look at the specifications it comes with, the value it offers, and the price at which it is set. In short, the device has a great value proposition.

The iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G stands out with its striking design, a vibrant 144Hz display, impressive flagship-grade cameras, and seamless performance. Basically, the phone is worth your money. Here is the phone’s review in 5 points.

Design & Display

iQOO has done an impressive job with the design of the Neo 9 Pro 5G. The phone has a sporty and playful look. The hero design variant comes in red and white, with a thin white strip on the left side of the rear panel, where the dual cameras are vertically aligned, along with the Neo branding. The rest of the panel is red. In line with the color scheme, the bezels are also red and made of metal. However, for those who prefer a simpler design, there is also an all-black variant available.

The phone’s form factor is impressive, too. It feels sleek and light, especially the red variant which is slightly thicker than the black variant but weighs less. The vegan leather on the red and white variant provides a good in-hand feel, making the 6.7-inch display easy to grip. One minor issue with the design is that the white strip is prone to getting dirty, but the retail box includes a clear case to address this.

Regarding the display, the Neo 9 Pro 5G has a bright and low-latency display. With a brightness of up to 3,000 nits, it remains legible even in direct sunlight. The 144Hz refresh rate makes it quick and responsive, as does the in-display fingerprint sensor. Additionally, the display is equipped with Wet Touch technology, which allows it to register touches even with wet hands.

The iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G’s camera is a mixed bag. While it excels in well-lit environments, providing vibrant and detailed portraits during the day, it struggles in low-light conditions. In nighttime and low-light shots, there is a noticeable loss of detail and increased noise. Portrait mode, while generally effective in well-lit settings, can produce high-contrast images with uneven background blurring.

Zoom capabilities are limited, with images shot at 30X lacking in detail. However, 10X zoom images maintain detail and color accuracy. Despite these limitations, the phone captures outdoor scenes well, even at night with sufficient lighting.

The iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G’s battery, despite being slightly above 5,100 mAh, usually lasts just over a day with normal use. However, the 120 W fast charging support ensures that even a half-full battery can be recharged in approximately 15 minutes, which makes the battery life feel extended.

The iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G’s performance, driven by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, sets a solid benchmark for its camera performance. Having used the phone as my primary device for a few weeks, engaging in medium to heavy multitasking, I can attest that the phone shows no signs of lag or stuttering. It remains quick, responsive, and adept at handling multiple tasks. I also tested the device’s gaming capabilities with Asphalt 9 and COD: Mobile, running the latter at its highest settings. While Asphalt 9 did not trigger any noticeable heating issues, 20 minutes into playing COD: Mobile, I noticed minor heating, which was mitigated by the material on the back panel. Overall, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G impresses with its performance across various applications and gaming scenarios.

The 12 GB RAM variant we tested of the iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G is impressive. Admittedly, it might seem like a surplus of adjectives in a review, but the phone genuinely deserves such praise. It delivers snappy performance, a reliable camera, commendable battery life, an impressively responsive display, and a gaming experience that’s bound to delight. With a starting price of Rs 35,999, and our specific variant priced at Rs 39,999 (but bank and launch offers bringing it down to Rs 36,999), we consider it a fantastic deal for this quality of smartphone. Unless your top priority is a camera-centric device in this price range, the iQOO Neo 9 Pro 5G is an excellent choice for everyday use, social media photography, and gaming without breaking the bank.
